ATD/TGA Laboratory
*EQUIPMENT
The STA 6000 thermal analysis equipment simultaneously records the thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and the differential thermal analysis (DTA) of a sample, from 15º to 950ºC. It can also record its cooling from 950º to 15ºC, all in two different atmospheres: air and nitrogen. In addition, it is fitted with a 45-position autosampler that allows for automated analysis.
* SESSIONS
ATD / TGA sessions are always sessions with technical assistance.
To request an analysis, you must contact the laboratory staff by filling in the form or via email.
* CONDITIONS OF DELIVERY OF SAMPLES AND RESULTS
Samples can be delivered in person or by regular mail.
Once the samples have been delivered to the laboratory, the latter will inform the user of the expected delivery date of the results, which will depend on both the number of samples requested and the Service's agenda.
* PREPARATION OF SAMPLES FOR THE SESSION
The samples will be delivered in the ideal conditions for the equipment (finely ground) and with the instructions for both the temperature ramp and the atmosphere that is needed in the analysis. In addition, the approximate expected composition of the sample will be indicated, since certain substances damage the equipment.
* PRINCIPLES OF THE TECHNIQUE
This equipment of thermal analysis allows the study of the evolution of solid samples as a function of temperature, simultaneously analyzing the losses or gains in weight of the sample (TGA) and the thermal effects suffered by them (TDA).
In thermogravimetric analysis, the mass of a sample placed in a controlled atmosphere is continuously recorded as a function of temperature. They can be recorded at different speeds ºC / min. It allows studying decomposition and oxidation reactions, vaporization processes...
Differential thermal analysis measures the difference in temperature between the sample and a reference material while they are subjected to the same temperature program. They can be recorded at different ° C / min. It allows studying phase changes, chemical reactions, desorption processes...
