Laboratory of Computational Biogeography

The laboratory of Computational Biogeography (BI lab) provides the necessary computer equipment and technical support for the application of Geography Information and Remote Sensing Systems in research projects that address different issues. The laboratory is available for staff scientists, who can also request guidance in all matters concerning data processing through Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing. The laboratory can also take on specific projects, provided that the agenda of activities and the teams capacity allow for it.

Main activities:

Spatial analysis of all kinds of information.
Process of big series of georeferenced data (climatic) with relational databases.
Territorial analysis with GIS programmes.
Geo-processing features (changes in reference systems, mapping generalization, data selection and extraction, etc.)
Catalogue generation of geographical metadata.
Participation in research projects which include the use of GIS and remote sensing.
Implementation of GIS and Remote Sensing specialization workshops.
Dissemination activities, participation in MNCN exhibitions.
Search for and acquisition of cartographic resources, geographic information, georeferenced databases, mapping and satellite images.
Downloading and treatment of information for its later management in statistical calculation programs.
Development of themed mapping for scientific publications.
